Dr. Jayandra Soni
Jayandra Soni retired in May 2012 from the Department of Indology and Tibetology, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany, where he taught Indian languages (Sanskrit, Hindi and his mother tongue Gujarati) from October 1991. Born and brought up in South Africa where he did his BA, he studied further in India (Banaras Hindu University PhD in 1978) and Canada (McMaster University PhD in 1987). In 2012 he was elected Secretary General of the IASS. He presently lives in Austria and teaches part-time courses on Indian philosophy, for example at the University of Innsbruck during the winter and summer semesters 2012–13. He continues his research in Indian philosophy, including special studies in Jaina philosophy, attends seminars and gives lectures, for example in Toyo University in Tokyo, September-October 2012. Books: Philosophical Anthropology in Śaiva Siddhānta, Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass, 1989. He edited Jaina Studies. Proceedings of the DOT 2010 Panel in Marburg, Germany.
